Chief Of Staff, E. Thomas Oliver
RW E. Thomas Oliver is the Chief of Staff of the Most Worshipful Grand Lodge F&AM of the State of New York. He is an
experienced finance administrator and educator with over thirty years in the Higher Education arena. During his career, RW
Oliver held supervisory positions as an international banker, internal auditor and when he retired, he had been a Vice
President for three universities. Recently, he retired from Fisk University, in Nashville, Tennessee as the Senior Vice President
for Business and Finance (CFO). In 2002 - 2006 he served Fort Valley State University in Georgia as Vice President for
Finance.
Previously, he served Medgar Evers College, (CUNY) as Business Manager, Dean of Administration and Vice President/Dean
of the School of Continuing Education. Prior to his arrival at Medgar Evers College, he served CUNY Central Board of Higher
Education as an Internal Audit Manager for eight years. He was employed by the Israel Discount Bank of New York as
supervisor of the accounting department for nine years. As the university's chief fiscal officer, he supervised the overall
activities in accounting, budgeting, cashiering, accounts payable, purchasing and payroll. His responsibilities also included
overseeing the departments of campus police, central stores, auxiliary services, records management, human resources and
campus facilities. In 1964 he was honorably discharged from the United States Air Force Security Service, after serving in
Japan and Germany. He holds a Master of Business Administration (MBA) degree from Long Island University, New York and
earned a Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA) degree from Bernard Baruch College, CUNY. He holds managerial
certificates from both the Harvard University Graduates Studies Institute and the Nissan-ETS Institute.
RW Oliver has served for many years on various boards and community based organizations and has received numerous
citations and appreciation awards. He is an active member of the New Jerusalem Baptist church in Jamaica, NY. He spent
many years at Zion Baptist church in Brooklyn as Trustees chairman. While in Georgia, he was chair of the Finance Ministry at
Central Union Missionary Baptist in Fort Valley Georgia. In Nashville, he chaired the Men Ministry at Spruce Street Baptist
Church. He is a Past President of the United Black Men of Queens County, Inc. and a Life member of the NAACP. He is Past
Master of Antioch Lodge #66 (1980) and a 33° Mason. Many innovated programs were instituted in the First Masonic District
during his 8 year presidency. After chairing the Budget and Finance Committee of the Grand Lodge for over 10 years, he was
recently appointed Chief of Staff by the MW Grand Master, Dr. Gregory R. Smith, Sr. RW Oliver resides in Queens, New York
with his wife Mattie D. Oliver and they have two children, Gisella, Vincent and granddaughter, Briana.
